Introduction to Our Initiative

Sovereign Arbitration Advisors is excited to announce our collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This partnership focuses on a technical assistance program that aims to strengthen the governance of international investment agreements (IIAs) and regional trade agreements (RTAs) in Uzbekistan.

The necessity of improving the governance structures around these agreements cannot be overstated. IIAs and RTAs play a critical role in fostering international economic relations. Enhancing their governance framework leads to better investment climates and more sustainable outcomes.

The Role of Experts

As part of this initiative, our Counsel, Dorieke Overduin, along with Climate Change Counsel’s Annette Magnusson, is engaged as an independent expert. Their expertise will support governments in enhancing domestic policymaking.

This collaboration will also aim at promoting transparency and improving intergovernmental coordination. It sets the stage for aligning investment and trade policies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By doing so, we aim to mitigate investment-related disputes and increase the overall effectiveness of these agreements.

Workshop Highlights

The first seminar occurred on 7 February 2025 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It brought together key policymakers and experts to discuss best practices and necessary policy reforms. This collaborative platform allows for the exchange of ideas on governance, enhancing both investment and trade agreements.

Discussions at the seminar provided insights into the current landscape of international relations in the region. By sharing knowledge and experiences, participants began to outline effective strategies for reform.

Ongoing Capacity-Building Sessions

The program is designed to last throughout 2025, delivering targeted capacity-building sessions across the region. These sessions will focus on enabling policymakers to adopt more robust frameworks that support international investment and trade.

Continuous learning is essential. Thus, our initiative will ensure that stakeholders receive the necessary training and resources they need. These efforts will help to nurture a culture of informed decision-making around international agreements.

The Importance of Sustainable Development

Aligning investment and trade policies with the SDGs is not merely a goal; it is a necessity. As we face global challenges, sustainable practices must be at the forefront of economic governance.

We believe that improved governance structures will lead to increased stakeholder confidence. This will attract further investment into Uzbekistan, promoting economic growth and stability.

The issues surrounding international investments are complex. Yet, with the right policies in place, the potential for growth is immense. Stakeholders in Uzbekistan must embrace this opportunity for transformation.

Future Updates

We are committed to providing updates on the progress of this initiative. Stay tuned as we continue to support sustainable and resilient economic governance in Uzbekistan.
